My life is filled with so many joys, from my lovely husband to my kids and the joy that comes with being a mother. Sadly, while I built up these great joys over the years and worked on being a great wife and mom, I forgot to keep in touch with some of the people who have meant the most in my life.
Due to the time it took to watch the kids, prepare meals, and do the other daily chores, I wasn’t able to devote the time I should have to writing letters, sending emails, and making casual conversation on the phone. The lack of contact and phone conversations caused me to lose touch with some of my loved ones including close friends, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Imagine my surprise when the phone rang the other day and it was my aunt and uncle to whom I haven’t talked in over seven years. After the brief moment of stunned silence and emotion that I was feeling, I had to know how they found me. There were times when I’d do a brief Internet search or ask another family member if they had their contact information, but I never followed up with those leads.
As it turns out, my aunt and uncle have been doing similar Internet searches, Canada 411 searches, and calling phone directories to see if my family and I would pop up on one of them. Just this past month, my name turned up on one of these searches because I had opened my Facebook account.
It has now been two months since that initial contact with my loved ones, and I now realize that I’ve been missing out on an important part of my family. I will never again allow myself to miss out on the joys of staying in contact with loved ones.
